Bathtub Reglazing
Bathtub
Reglazing is a process of restoring your bathtub so that it will look and feel brand new again. People
normally have their bathtub reglazed after 3-5 years because of scratches on the surface of the bathtub and some
may even begin to chip off the top layers. Upon calling up your local contractor to do your bathtub
reglazing, here's what to expect:
First, they will clean the bathtub and remove
any caulking that might be there from the original installation. Second, they will mask and cover the areas
not to be reglazed. Then, they will remove the fixtures such as the overflow covers and faucets of the
bathtub. After that, they will setup their ventilators to expell the fumes that wil accumulate from the
bathtub reglazing process. Now, they'll begin to sand your bathtub using a sander to remove the top
deteriorated layer of the bathtub.
Sometimes, they will have to etch the surface
to help the glaze coating to adhere. They'll vacuum your bathtub until it is clean without any powder left
and then they'll fill up holes and cracks and imperfections. Make sure they protect all your cabinets and
sinks with plastic or newspaper from the chemicals they'll use. They will coat your bathtub with 3 coats of
bathtub reglazing chemicals. After the process is over, expect to be able to use your tub in 48 hours
minimum.
Bathtub reglazing companies often differ in
the way they finish the bathtub reglazing. Some
contractors may come back to fix the imperfections of their process, and some claim that their reglazing process
will not have imperfections and will not need to come back after 2-3 days. Whichever claim they make, make sure to check your tub
immediately after a day or two and report any imperfections and demand them to fix it perfectly. Never settle for anything less because the price of bathtub
reglazing is not that cheap. So don’t get ripped
off.
Make sure that you do not clean your bathtub
with very strong chemicals or acids. Remember that this bathtub reglazing is not as tough as the original
coating of your bathtub.
