Bathtub Refinishing

Why do people choose bathtub refinishing and not total replacement?  This has long been debated because bathtub prices have been falling and bathtub refinishing service fees have been rising such that the cost of a new bathtub is already less than getting your bathtub refinishing service.

People choose to refinish their bathtubs because of several reasons.  The first one is the cost of replacement.  Replacing your bathtub is not as simple as going to a store and buying a new bathtub and taking it home.  You should also consider the cost of labor and materials for replacing your bathtub.  The process is a very tedious one.  It involves drilling, mashing, cracking, peeling, basically wrecking the old bathtub and the structure supporting the bathtub.  The cement that supports the bathtub and fixes it to the ground and wall will be removed.  This alone should cost you a little fortune.  Then all the fixtures and valves will be disconnected from the drainage pipes of your bathroom, which will require the service of a plumber.  After all this, a new structure sill be built for the new bathtub so cement and masonry work will be needed.  Don't forget about the new tiles that are needed to cover the surroundings of your bathtub.  The entire process should cost you around 4-8 times the cost of the new bathtub.

Bathtub refinishing is a lot cheaper compared to the entire process of replacing your bathtub.  The process is a lot more simpler that a bathtub replacement.  The process will look like this:

First, the bathtub refinishing contractor will scrape, sand and clean off your bathtub for any molds, cracks, or chipping off of the outer surface of the tub.  Then, they will fill in the cracks and dents with fillers.  After making sure that the surface is perfectly even all around, they then apply a primer as the first coating to help the succeeding coatings stick to the bathtub.  After the primer is dry, the next coatings should be applied 2 more times.  This will be done one layer at a time to make sure the coatings will dry and stick to the bathtub.    The final layer of coating should be a gloss coating with the color of your choice.  This should be the toughest layer of all the coatings since this is the layer that is exposed everyday to your use.

You will now be able to use your bathtub after 2 days.
