Bathtub Resurfacing

Bathtub resurfacing is about changing the outer layer or surface of your bathtub.  Usually, bathtubs will need resurfacing after a few years because of wear and tear.  Sometimes, people accidentally pour strong chemicals that can damage the bathtub to clean it.  Some chemicals may melt or dissolve away some layers of the bathtub.  If this happens, we will need to have to get a bathtub resurfacing service to make it feel and look brand new again.

The process of bathtub resurfacing, depending on the company doing the bathtub resurfacing, is very much like the process of bathtub reglazing.  This will involve cleaning the bathtub before anything else.  Then, the damaged portion of the bathtub will be sanded off.  the top most portion of the bathtub will also need to be sanded a little bit.  After this is done, the bathtub will be vacuumed and cleaned again to make sure the bathtub resurfacing coating will stick permanently on the bathtub surface.  Holes and irregularities will be filled normally with a polymer filler until the bathtub surface is even without any lumps and craters.  Note that this process should be perfect because if this process is imperfect, lumps and uneven surface will appear on the surface of the bathtub after the resurfacing is done.

After the holes and craters with polymer filler are dried, it is now time for the first layer of bathtub resurfacing coating.  The usually used chemical is epoxy coating.  This will be sprayed lightly over the surface of the bathtub in order for it to dry faster.  This layer should be dry before coating with the second layer.  All in all, there should be at least 3 coatings of epoxy to make the outer shell of the bathtub very tough.  Some contractors may apply a final coating of another chemical to give the bathtub a great shine and luster when it is finished.

Epoxy coating is the industry standard for this application because it is not very chemically reactive once it is dried.  It is also scratch resistant because it dries really hard and the chemical bonding or it's atoms is stronger than any other coating available.

Your bathtub should be ready for use after fourty eight hours.
